Publishing Assistant
Note – this role is based in our Milton Keynes Office
Radcliffe and Speechmark Publishing are committed to the publication of books and journals that support the career and development of professionals in healthcare, particularly in the areas of primary care, professional development, nursing, child health, exam preparation, dentistry, medical and healthcare education, mental health and substance use, psychological therapies, palliative care, pharmacy, allied health professions and social care. The role of Publishing Assistant is within the Radcliffe and Speechmark Publishing Team, and reports to the Journals and Editorial Development Manager. The main responsibilities of the role are:
• Providing administrative support to the editorial team.
• Supporting the Journals and Editorial Development Manager with the administration of the production of journals.
Administrative support to the journal editorial team
- Manage the EPRESS web-based online submission and peer review system.
- As new journals are added to the EPRESS system support the editorial team and be able to advise on how to use and customise the system for their need
- Be the first point of contact for authors submitting new manuscripts (be able to advise on word length, submission format etc
- Liaise closely with the editorial team via email and monthly telephone conference calls.
Administrative support to the Journals and Editorial Development Manager
· Keep databases, spreadsheets and other records up to date.
· Deal with the administration of work commissioned to freelance proofreaders.
· Be the first point of contact for authors publishing journal articles.
· Manage claims for online journal access via IngentaConnect.
· Manage subscriptions using the RED database.
· Provide general support as required.
Skills and experience
Required:an interest in academic publishing, proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management, excellent communication skills, strong administrative skills, ability to multi-task
Desirable: A background inpublishing or experience of working for a publishing company, an understanding of editorial functions and processes
